James Flynn possesses flawless intonation, a fine sense of rhythmic swing and an uncanny interpretation of the lyric. From the point of view of solely recording, this would be sufficient but in a live setting he brings much more. Flynn engages his audience - he has the talent to communicate. His concert performances in front of capacity audiences feel like a casual presentation in a friend's lounge room. This ability to make everyone feel "at home" is a rare skill in the jazz environment. In short he is an entertainer
